Job Summary:

Serves as an expert resource for faculty, the Curriculum Committee, and the Assessment of Student Learning Committee to provide guidance on highly effective curriculum design, teaching methodologies, and assessment strategies that support academic excellence, student success, and the principles of Guided Pathways.

Essential Functions:

1. Consults with the Curriculum Committee and faculty to establish and refine learning objectives; share expertise on how best to achieve those objectives, and assist in the development of assessment strategies.
2. Conducts learning needs analyses and applies industry standard practices for designing education and training solutions that are effective to support academic excellence, student success, and learner knowledge acquisition and skill development.
3. Develops and organizes various forms of content (to include technical, applied, process, and behavioral skill development) for delivery via multiple modalities (face-to-face, online, hybrid, and virtual delivery).
4. Collaborates with the faculty and staff to create effective learning environments that promote interaction, social presence, and community among learners and also between learners and faculty.
5. Provides guidance and support to subject matter experts (to include faculty and business and industry partners) in the design and implementation of education and training content.
6. Designs effective learning activities and authentic assessments that encourage critical thinking skills and self-directed learning.
7. Works closely with content experts to design and storyboard learning objects, select video material, and assists in media production through coaching and script editing.
8. Works closely with the faculty and staff to create project plans and timelines for each curriculum project.
9. Researches and compiles learning content and its associated copyright permissions and clearances, and employs creative problem-solving to generate innovative solutions for sourcing and serving learning content.
10. Engages in professional development to maintain a keen understanding of curriculum development trends, developments, and best practices.
11. Quality checks course design documents for adherence to best practices.
12. Analyzes course and learning data to inform continuous improvement of instructional design efforts.
13. Supports oversight of academic progress and milestones of student outcomes; collaborates with the Guided Pathways Team in overall assessments of student progress and performance.
14. Supports diversity and internationalization in all aspects of the educational experience and fosters positive collegial relationships amongst students, staff, and faculty.
15. Establishes and maintains effective working relationships; works cooperatively and collegially with others.
16. Other duties as assigned.

Other Duties:

Under the limited supervision of the Director of the Teaching and Learning Center, the Curriculum Designer is responsible for working in collaboration with faculty and staff to ensure that curricula, teaching methodologies, and assessment strategies are highly effective and support academic excellence, student success, and the tenets of Guided Pathways. Also works collaboratively with the Project Director, Guided Pathways (Title III).

Job Specifications:

Minimum Qualifications:
Master’s Degree in curriculum design, instructional design, or related academic discipline required. Four or more years of experience working directly with subject matter experts on the design and development of compelling and engaging curriculum for various delivery modalities. The ability to articulate and communicate difficult concepts clearly and concisely, with a critical attention to detail is required. Expertise and knowledge of best practices in curriculum design and the ability to work independently, as well as in a team environment. Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communications skills. Exceptional project management skills and the ability to multi-task and meet deadlines. Excellent computer skills and proficiency in project management software and Microsoft Office. Experience using a learning management system for course content uploads/edits and/or course facilitation.

Preferred Qualifications:
Seven or more years of experience working directly with faculty or subject matter experience on the design and development of instruction or training. Experience implementing systematic instructional design processes for various delivery modalities and adult learning theory. Experience interpreting and organizing information on permissions and clearances of learning content, collecting and curating rights and usage in a central location. Familiar with ADA compliance, accessibility issues, and universal design principles. Experience writing compelling and engaging content for diverse audiences and purposes, to include credit and non-credit learning experiences. Experience working with subject matter experts or corporate clients to create training content. Experience with copyediting and proofreading

Salary Range: $43,279 - $64,691
